Comic classic gets a social media makeover
Stripe worked with Dundee-based publishers, DC Thomson in October 2010 to relaunch the UK’s longest running comic, The Dandy. Famous for Desperate Dan and his love of cow pies, The Dandy has built up quite the cult following over the past 74 years. Through partnerships with the UK’s best comic talent (Harry Hill writes a weekly comic strip), the children’s comic was to become more topical and cheeky, but most importantly 100% funny.
Stripe helped bring the characters to life through social media, revitalising the love of a comic classic; getting Desperate Dan online, creating Facebook and Twitter sites for the man himself – and for the new look Dandy. The team also provided an exclusive unveiling of the comic relaunch to the new social community, The Dandy created a huge online buzz for readers old and new. Facebook and Twitter also revealed sneak previews of new characters such as Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Lord Alan Sugar, and allowed fans to vote their favourites out and new suggestions in – in an X Factor style vote.
